My dear friends, it’s such a joy for me to be able to write to you this month!

I wanted to share a few thoughts on Kingly Anointing that I have been meditating from the Book of Esther!

I believe that The Lord is keen on unleashing this anointing to the ones who truly hunger to bring about a difference in and to His Kingdom in these end times!

1. Do not despise humble beginnings!

If you read the book of Esther, we know from chapter 2 verses 5-7 that Esther was an orphan girl brought up by her uncle. According to scholars, this is said to be at a time approximately 200 years after the Temple at Jerusalem was built by Nehemiah and the others after their Babylonian captivity. Israelites had just begun to breathe freely but were still surrounded by strange and abominable practices in a Pagan empire contrary to what the Lord had told them. (Esther 1:1-5)

Hadassah (Esther) had nothing to herself. Neither family nor the leisure of joyously and openly worshipping the Lord with her people. (Esther 2:5-7)

She had seemingly nothing to start with compared to the greater calling that lay ahead of her.

2. Name of Esther

This thought intrigued me a great deal! Many times Mordecai (Hadassah’s uncle) has been compared with Jesus as are so many other characters in the Bible.

For the very first time, I felt Esther had a resemblance to Christ!

There have been many instances in the Bible when the Lord gave a new name to a specific person and the changed name would always come out for the greater significance or the greater good! Like how Jacob meaning supplanter/deceiver was changed to Israel which means Prince with God (Genesis 32:24-32).

Surprisingly for Hadassah, it was not so. Not only did things go from bad to worse but her very name which meant “myrtle tree” which symbolised love, peace, and abundance in the Jewish tradition was changed to Esther/Ishtar, a pagan deity known for love, war, and sexuality. (Esther 2:7)

I was suddenly reminded of 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

This girl not only had to endure a painful childhood but things took a turn to the worse when she with so many other virgin girls was captured for the King’s pleasure and had to know that there was never a possibility of returning home, or seeing her beloved uncle or worship with her people, worse still having to keep her identity hidden and hold on a pagan name!

3. God’s favour

Having seen the cost that sometimes comes with the anointing, on the other hand, it is evident from the life of Esther that what really carries anyone through the calling or the anointing is grace!

Beautifully depicted through her life, there’s a time and again reminder that the Lord’s favour always lingers around the called, the chosen (Esther 2:9,15,17,18).

Esther had unusual favour in the sight of all who saw her, even the King.

4. Glory disproportionate to the suffering endured

For us having known this story already it’s easy to agree that what destruction was averted through Esther for her people was nothing short of a miracle.

But least did Esther or her uncle Mordecai at the time know the greater significance of why this orphan girl had to suffer so much.

When the time came for the Jews to be annihilated from the kingdom, Mordecai had to remind Esther that she was brought to the kingdom at such a time as this. Knowing her uncle’s words were true Esther faithfully obeyed although her proposed actions could put her very life in danger. (Esther 4: 13-17)

We know that Esther with her servants and all of the Israelites fasted and prayed for three days and three nights. Esther did find favour in the eyes of the king when she entered his court without summon! (Esther 5:1-3)

But what made me wonder the most was – how can someone say or know what was the perfect/adequate sacrifice to obtaining God’s favour or His mercy?

What possibly even a King or an army could not have achieved was done through just a 3-day fast!! The king’s decree changed, instead of the Jews being slaughtered, they slew their enemies on the very days planned for their annihilation, Haman was hanged in the very gallows he had made for Mordecai, his sons killed and Mordecai just a scribe at the King’s gate promoted and positioned to have the King’s signet ring!! Just a three-day fast…

I wonder why God would go to such an extent. Sometimes it does seem that the suffering we endure for the sake of the anointing can never be compared to the glory to come! (Romans 8:18).

5. Also, with this unusually favoured disproportionate anointing comes the grace to not just save ourselves or households or communities but an entire nation!!

I truly believe that any child of God who is hungry and thirsty to serve the Lord in these last days will be poured out with an immeasurable grace of Kingly anointing to save an entire regime, an entire nation!

6. The story is already written!

We all know that the enemy Haman who planned for the annihilation of the Jews was of Agagite descent – the very nation the Lord had commanded King Saul to destroy in whole, years before Hadassah was even born!

When the time came for a man of that descent to take revenge on Mordecai and his people who refused to bow down to anyone but their God, God had already brought this orphan girl to become the Queen of that very nation for the saving and deliverance of His people!

God was moving an entire nation, the provinces, and the king, and his administrators brought down a queen just for one woman to come to that place. What a mighty God we serve.

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

My dearest friend, your story is long written, your anointing long preserved waiting for its time. Ask and plead to God for it today, that your time may be fulfilled to reveal Jesus

7. He’s never in the picture!

Out of all the lessons learned, this shook me the most. Not once throughout the book of Esther has the name Lord been mentioned.

The entire story is so perfectly timed that anyone reading it even a child would recognize it’s beyond human limits to weave such a beautiful array of events for the good of the Lord’s people!

But not once has the True Hero come into the picture visibly!

I believe when we are anointed with this Kingly Anointing this year and people wonder and stand in awe of what’s done through us, we will have the boldness to say – “Yet not I, but through Christ in me!” Galatians 2:20

In these challenging times, here’s to experiencing His Kingly Anointing, for people to say Acts 17:6 yet again!
